  The October Austin ARMA meeting will be held October 15, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. This VIRTUAL meeting is free for chapter members and only $5 for guests.  

  Topic: When It Hits the Fan: RIM's Role in Incident Response

  What happens when ransomware hits the shared drive, an intern syncs payroll files to a public link, and two banker boxes of HR records vanish somewhere between Floor 3 and the loading dock? You call the person everyone forgets until everything's on fire: the RIM professional. In "When It Hits the Fan: RIM's Role in Incident Response," Tyrene Bada, MLS, CRM, takes you on a wild ride through the five phases of incident response—from ransomware attacks to "Salary Review_FINAL_FINAL_2.xls"—and shows why records managers are the Gandalfs arriving at Helm's Deep with a well-labeled spreadsheet and a calm voice. You'll laugh, you may cry, and you'll leave with battle-tested strategies for records hygiene, digital forensics, chain of custody heroics, and turning every crisis into an upgrade opportunity.   Tyrene Bada

  MLS, CRM 

  Tyrene Bada, MLS, CRM (she/her) is a Business Systems Analyst for the City of Beaverton, Oregon, wrangling information governance with the precision of an archivist and the enthusiasm of a librarian on a treasure hunt. She stumbled into records management at Portland Community College, where she built its first records program from scratch.

  A past president of the Oregon ARMA Chapter (RIP!), Tyrene served on the ARMA International Board of Directors (2020–2023) and is the co-chair of the ARMA International Conference Education Committee, which selects the sessions for all three ARMA Conferences. She also contributes to the ICRM as a CRM exam part writer and has recently been elected as Regent of Marketing and Communications for the ICRM.

  Armed with a Master’s in Library Science from Emporia State University, she brings order to chaos—whether in data systems or theatre rehearsals. She proudly serves on the Board of Directors for the award-winning Broadway Rose Theatre and, as a professional cantor and chorister, spends her nights making music. In her downtime, you’ll find her napping or lost in Taylor Swift’s discography—her soundtrack for both productivity and relaxation.

• Fall Shred Day 2026

  You can prevent identity theft by properly disposing of personal records and information at Austin ARMA’s Fall Shred Day, Saturday, November 7, 2026. The event is sponsored by the Austin Chapter of ARMA (a not-for-profit professional association and the authority on governing information as a strategic asset) in partnership with Circular Services, a trusted document destruction company in Austin, Texas. Drop-off will be held at Circular Services, 9301 Johnny Morris Rd. from 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  
  Circular Services will accept the following paper items:

  • Papers with personal or confidential information
  • Tax returns
  • Bank records
  • Invoices
  • Receipts
  • Medical records

  Residents can bring their paper records in boxes no larger than 24 inches by 24 inches by 36 inches for shredding. In order for the documents to be shredded, the items must be dry paper in a cardboard box with fitting lids.  All boxes and paper will be recycled.  No plastic bags, hard plastics, electronic media or three-ring binders will be accepted.  
  
  Shredded paper should not be placed in your blue recycling cart at home because it is difficult to capture these very small particles during the recycling processing. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the Shred Day opportunities so that the shredded documents can be recycled.
  
  Monetary donations will be accepted at the event.  Half of all donations will go to the Austin ARMA Chapter and the other half of donations will go to the Operation Turkey.
