Session 1: Overlap to Optimize – Do More or Do Better?

Wendy McLain

What are your personal and professional goals for 2023? Do you feel like you are always busy, yet don’t get enough done? Is work/life balance a thing of the past? We will explore how a simple Venn Diagram may help you align your priorities and improve both your sanity and satisfaction.

Session 2: Is it Data?  Is it a Record? Is it Information?

David Smythe

In today’s world, the word “data” is a catchphrase that includes what Information Management professionals know as distinct entities: records, data and information.  While the lines between them are blurred, it is vital that we understand the difference to ensure compliant, secure and efficient control over, and use of, an organization’s records and data.

In this session we’ll explore the relationship between data and records and information, how to convey that to your internal stakeholders (including IT) and the implications it has on your ability to ensure compliance with regulations as well as your Information Management policy.

Session 3: It’s About Dang Time; Simplifying Event-Based Retention Periods

Susan Cisco & Talj Harper

Managing the lifecycle of records with event-based retention periods poses a major challenge for RIM/IG Professionals because someone or some system has to enter the trigger event before disposition can happen. It is not uncommon for 25-65% of the retention periods in a private or public sector schedule to be event-based. Using a risk analysis approach, this session will provide a framework for examining the event-based retention periods in a retention schedule and determining which can be simplified with a fixed period or other methods. Examples of successful simplification of event-based retention periods from both the private and public sectors will be discussed.

Session 4: Gamifying Governance: Putting the “FUN” in FUNctional for your IM Compliance Program

Ryan M. Zilm

In this session, participants will be motivated through a journey of real-life examples on implementing compliant information management programs through games, fun, and educational programs.

ARMA International Update

Margaret Hermesmeyer

Margaret will be bringing the latest news on ARMA International’s innovative programs and exciting educational opportunities.

Session 5: Sharks, Recs, and Techs - Understanding your colleagues in the Legal and IT Fields

Tyrene Bada

What does it mean to "archive a record"?  Your answer will probably be different than the answer you'll get if you ask a lawyer, and their answer will be different from an IT professional's response.  Yet, we all need each other for a successful records management program.  Learn who really has the "tools" and who has the "rules" in this entertaining and enlightening session.
